Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) & Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) Welcome PM Modi’s Decision to Repeal New Farm Laws

On Friday (November 19), on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that his government would repeal the three new farm laws in the coming session of Parliament.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-inspired organisations, Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to repeal the three new farm laws.

In a televised address to the nation on Friday (November 19), Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his government’s decision to repeal the three new farm laws in the coming winter session of Parliament, which is scheduled to commence on November 29.

Prime Minister Modi said that despite his best efforts, he could not convince some farmers about the benefits of the three new farm laws. He also emphasised that he and his cabinet colleagues made multiple attempts to convince the farmers about the benefits of the three new farm laws.

“Swadeshi Jagran Manch welcomes the statement of Prime Minister repealing the three farm legislations, ending the controversies around them”, Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) co-convener Dr. Ashwani Mahajan said.

He added, “We at Swadeshi Jagran Manch firmly believe that the intent of the farm legislations was good. However, we concur with Prime Minister that the government was not able to convince the agitating farmers about the benefits of the legislations.”

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) also welcomed the decision to repeal the three new farm laws. “The decision of repealing of these three farmer’s acts by honourable Prime Minister seems to be a right decision to avoid unwarranted controversies and conflicts”, BKS General Secretary Badri Narayan Chaudhary said.

The SJM also cautioned about the hijacking of the farmers’ protests by the anti-national and separatist forces.

Dr. Mahajan said, “It is unfortunate that in the name of opposition to farm legislations, many separatist forces had entered into the agitation, endangering the integrity and security of the nation. By this act of repealing the farm legislations the government has defeated the ill intentions of the anti-national and separatist forces.”

He also emphasised that the country needs new farm laws which are better suited to the current demands of the country, adding “while making new laws there is underlying need to take all stakeholders on board.”

Prime Minister Modi, in his address, said that over 80 per cent of the farmers of the country are small farmers who own less than two-hectare land. He added that many farmers and farmers organisations’ had welcomed the three new farm laws.

The Modi government has distributed more than 22 crore soil health cards and ensured the smooth and sufficient delivery of Neem coated urea. The agriculture budget has been increased five times to 1,25,000 lakh crores by the Modi government.

In the last four years, more than 1,00,000 crore rupees have been provided to farmers as compensation for damaged crops.

PM Modi said, “Whatever I had done, it was for the farmers of the country. And, what I’m doing is for the country.”
