Offering namaz in open spaces will not be tolerated: Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar

Reacting to the various incident where the Namaz is being offered in public places in various sectors in Gurugram, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar stated that Namaz is in open spaces will not be tolerated in his state.

Gurugram, December 11: Reacting to the various incident where the Namaz is being offered in public places in various sectors in Gurugram, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar stated that Namaz is in open spaces will not be tolerated in his state. He also assured that the issue will be resolved soon as he has directed the police and administration to look into the matter.

While talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that members of all faiths should offer prayers in their own space or areas designated for worship. Namaz should be read in Mosques or Idgahs rather than public spaces.

He said, "I have told the police to resolve this issue. There is no problem with people offering namaz or puja at the designated places. The religious places are designated for that. But the act of offering namaz in open spaces will not be tolerated. The issue will be resolved amicably."
He further added that, offering public prayers is leading to clashes, he said and that should not happen. "They have said they have some lands where permission should be given. We will see if there is any land of Waqf that has been encroached so that it can be made available. People can offer namaz at their homes. But doing it in open spaces may create conflicts. There should be no interference in people's rights. But forcefully doing something will not be tolerated," he added.

Earlier in November, the Gurugram administration had withdrawn permission to offer namaz at eight out of 37 designated sites. As per an official statement from the district administration, the permission was canceled after an objection from the local people and Resident Welfare Association (RWA).

The locations include Bengali Basti in Sector 49, V Block of DLF Phase-3, Surat Nagar Phase-1, outskirts of Kherki Majra village, outskirts of Daulatalab village near Dwarka Expressway, near Ramgarh village in Sector 68, near DLF Square Tower, and from Rampur village to Nakhrola Road.

The district administration had informed that people need to seek permission in order to offer namaz in any "public place or open place." Furthermore, the administration stated that the Muslims can offer prayers at any Eidgah, Mosque, or a private designated place. Apart from this, Deputy Commissioner Gurugram constituted a committee to identify the places where the people can offer Namaz. To resolve the matter, the committee will further discuss the issue with communities.
