To commemorate the 150th year of Vande Mataram, Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, New Delhi, is organising the nationwide ‘Namami Bharatam’ programme on Friday, September 25, 2026. More than one crore students, teachers, parents and citizens at over 25,000 locations across the country will come together to sing the complete Vande Mataram.
At 11:00 A.M., participants across the country will sing Vande Mataram together, embodying the spirit of “One Voice – One Resolve – One India”. ‘Namami Bharatam’ is not merely a programme of collective singing, but a nationwide initiative to connect the younger generation with the historical journey of Vande Mataram, its contribution to India’s freedom movement and its significance in the nation’s public life.
As part of the initiative, schools are organising interactive sessions, exhibitions, cultural programmes and various activities highlighting the history of Vande Mataram and its role in the freedom struggle. Vande Mataram played an important role in awakening a sense of nationalism among the people during India’s freedom movement.
After Independence, it was accorded the status of the National Song of India, while Jana Gana Mana was adopted as the National Anthem. Through Namami Bharatam, the 150-year historical journey of Vande Mataram and its contribution to the nation are being commemorated across the country.
Record certification
The nationwide initiative has been listed for record certification by the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records for the collective singing of Vande Mataram by the largest number of students and members of the public at multiple locations in unison.
According to Dr Satish Maheshwari, General Secretary, Vidya Bharati Delhi Prant, more than one lakh students, teachers, parents and citizens at around 300 locations across Delhi will participate in Namami Bharatam.
The organisers stated that the historic nationwide initiative will provide an opportunity to take the memories of India’s freedom struggle to the younger generation, strengthen their connection with Indian culture and further deepen the spirit of national unity.
The organisers have also requested members of the media to cover the programmes through their respective platforms and publish or broadcast news, reports, photographs and video coverage of the events.
Notably, Former Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi (Retd), will be the chief guest at a mass event marking 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, “Namami Bharatam,” on September 25 at the Shrimanta Sankardev International Auditorium at Kalakshetra here.
Organised by Vidya Bharati and Shiksha Samiti Assam, the event aims to set records for mass recitation of the national song Vande Mataram and regional mobilisation. Media coordinator of Vidya Bharati Northeast and Assam, Shailendra Pandey said General Dwivedi’s maiden northeast engagement has generated significant political and civic interest across the region.
